beYOUtiful

Okay so not so long ago, I was given a compliment about my appearance which I had a very hard time accepting. I felt awkward and lied to. A few minutes later, I found myself reflecting on how poor  my self-esteem was and how disappointed I was in myself. Which inspired me to write this post because I'm sure some of you all may relate to my situation. (At least I'd hope so lol)

Never do we realize how much having a positive self-esteem can help us. Mental health is just as important as physical health. We must learn to get rid of old toxic habits and train ourselves to see our own beauty.

It may feel unnatural at first but just how with practice we learn to solve a math problem,  its important we practice to change our thoughts about our appearance.

Here are some ways you could start doing so:
  • Have your nails and eyebrows done- As insignificant as these may sound, caring about your nails and eyebrows will make you feel like you have your life together.
  • Life is too short to own cheap foundation- A good foundation will always help you feel better about yourself. You'll feel like a brand new you!
  • Moisturize and exfoliate your face- Don't over do it either :/ 2-3 times a week is more than enough and you'll have a natural glow <3
  • Smile- Y'all have no idea the great effect smiling causes. Honestly, a smiling person looks 1000x more beautiful.
  • BeYOUtiful- Most importantly, BE YOURSELF! Don't compare yourself to others. Short, tall, wide, slim, dark, light, curly hair, straight hair. Nobody is perfect. We are all different and that's okay.
Learn to accept yourself and admire your own beauty. Because if you don't, then who will?

Contentedness

As college students pursuing a career, we are constantly stressing and wishing that our lives were maybe a little different. "Maybe if I had more money?" "What if I change majors?" Wishing things were different is a great way to torture yourself. Don't let it happen to you!

There's a quote by Dale Carnegie that says,
“It isn't what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.”

Its important to keep in mind how blessed we are for waking up every day and the great opportunity that is given to us of attending a university. The key to a happy and successful life is to be content and thankful for all that we have.

Here is how to do so:

  • Find the things about yourself that make you happy- What do you do right? Did you have a good hair day?
  • Don't compare yourself to others- "She has such a good car.""His parents pay him everything." Believe me, others have it worse.
  • Take a moment to be grateful for all that you have. - Despite you thinking you had a bad morning because you woke up late and had to run to class, think about that someone else didn't wake up, and someone else can no longer run like you did.

Nevertheless, don't lose focus of your future goals nor forget about your ambitions. But despite all your bad times, be patient and content as you grow through life.

The 5 Love Languages

Hey guys! So I recently found out about The 5 love languages, a book by Gary Chapman, and believe me when I say... it is life changing!!

You may obviously wonder why, right?

Well the book itself is very interesting to read. You learn a lot about yourself and the kind of person you are without you even knowing (trust me). Not only that, but you learn how to connect and improve your relationships with others, not necessarily in an intimate relationship but it also applies for families and friendships too.

The cool part about it, is that the website 5lovelanguages.com offers an official assessment to learn more about your own language. Based on your results, it gives you the do's and dont's and advice on how to focus and improve your weakest languages in order to better yourself. It's very easy and totally free!

I'm always up for learning new ideas and ways on how to grow and become a better version of myself so this book was totally worth reading!

I hope you all found this post useful and hope the 5 love languages helps you just as much :-)

Be Good

There's a quote by the famous Anne Frank that says,

"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart."

I like to sometimes look back and reflect that despite whatever it is that we have done or has been done to us, we are all good people.

We sometimes do certain things in a moment of despair and let them define us. Don't be too hard on yourself nor on others for doing you wrong.
As corny as it may sound, believe me when I say that every little thing is gonna be alright :)

It's important to always look at the positives in every situation and look for the lesson in it. I know it's a lot easier to be said than done but the key to a happy life, is that we must learn to forgive and remember that as humans, we are all flawed and that's okay.

Don't let your past haunt you!

Cleanse yourself from negativity and love abundantly!

Don't stress

Sleepless nights, restless days, caffeine overdose, it's that time of semester again... If there's anything just as stressful as finals, are midterms.

As college students, we are stuck in such difficult dilemmas. "Should I try harder or should I just not try at all?" Maybe I should drop this class before it's too late." We find it impossible to keep up with so many assignments and due dates.

I'm constantly having breakdowns every time I don't seem to have my life together and everything under control. Here are some personal tips that have come to help me and could do the same for you:

  • Take a shower or bath - Not only are you taking a break from the tension but you will feel a lot more refreshed afterwards.
  • Take a nap - Naps help you avoid the situation, coming back to it afterwards will usually give you a better visualization.
  • Say a prayer - Talking to God about your worries and struggles will remind you that he is in power of everything and will guide your way out of whatever situation you find yourself in.
  • Hug - Sometimes a hug is all you need (trust me).
  • Find memes - There's just something about finding college related memes that make you feel better. It reminds you that you are not alone in this and there's thousands of others going through the same lol
  • Remind yourself why you are doing this - For your parents, for yourself, think about all those believing in you. Find your motivation!

Don't be too hard on yourself and finish strong! Wish you the best of luck :*

Love Yourself

As humans, it is inevitable for us to love and want to be loved. We're constantly needing to feel nourished and cared for. Having someone there for you that makes you feel comfort and appreciation is a much better feeling that being alone. This is why we build relationships.

What happens when such relationship no longer makes you feel loved? You find yourself so caught up trying to keep it working that you forget what brought you both together in the first place. This becomes toxic in your everyday life and eventually makes you doubt if you've ever been good enough. When do you know it's time to walk away?  How could you have ever let go of yourself like this and forgotten what truly matters?

There's a quote by Dr. Steve Maraboli, that says,

"Love yourself enough to create an environment in your life that is conductive to the nourishment of your personal growth. Allow yourself to let go of the people, thoughts, and situations that poison your well-being. Cultivate a vibrant surrounding and commit yourself to making choices that will help you release the greatest expression of your unique beauty and purpose."

It is obviously a lot easier to be said than done right? In fact, it took me years to come to accept this. We lose focus on the good and don't realize that holding on to something that is not making you a better person is only keeping you from blooming to your full potential and your future success.

Keep in mind, that in order to improve and spiritually grow, it is essential to:

  • be brave
  • don't stress
  • never forget your worth
... and despite all, love yourself enough to let go.

xoxo,

Welcome!

Grow with Me

Hey everyone! Welcome to Grow with Me. My name is Margarita Yoeli Muniz but most people just call me Maggie. I'm a 19 year old girl from South Texas who currently attends UTRGV. As you all may obviously know, I'm new to this lol but I'm extremely excited to get out of my comfort zone and try this for the first time.

I consider myself someone who finds beauty in the simplest of things and always looks at the good in everybody. My ultimate dream is to become a national television broadcaster and one day work for Univision Communications Inc.

I've started this blog mainly because it's a requirement for my Multimedia Storytelling class. I believe to be someone who is still blooming and the best of me is still hidden. Reason why I chose to name my blog Grow with Me, in which I will gladly share self improvement tips and personal growth advice.

I'm clearly no expert, but if you ever find yourself needing a friend or anything you want to share (really) just shoot me an email! muniz.my4@gmail.com I will be more than glad to hear about you!

Btw, this is me!

Thank you for taking the time and viewing my first post guys!
